My little Garden
[我的小小花园]
I always draw and color garden. But one day, teacher said, why don’t we use thumb print to create garden artwork.
This sound great! But how?
1st, teacher ask me to put colous on my fingers, and press firm but gentle on the artboard wherever I want my flowers to be. After that, I said I want butterfly and dragonfly flying around my flowers too!
So, we print with finger again the butterfly and dragonfly’s body.
When the paint dry, I then use pen to add in details and other parts of the objects in my garden.
Slowly, my garden is in place. It look lovely, right?

Lovely cat taking photo
[小猫拍照中]

I want to take a photo of the cat I draw.
I give him 4 trees at his back, all in different colours so that he feel happy and smile when I take the photo.
I put him at the middle of the photo. Then I realize, oh, he block some part of the tree. Teacher said this is ok. He is the main object so he should be in front. And front object sure will block some of the background objects due to overlapping.
Now I get it. How about you? Ian Ooi You Yuan

Windmill under the Day & Night
[日月下的風車]

In this artwork, space and colors play an important role to make the main object and theme stand-up.
The space allowed one’s eyes focus on the main objects with less disturbance.
The colors tones and lighting effect clearly bought out the different atmosphere between Day & Night as well as the building structure.
So, do you have a better idea on what I have considered for my artwork? Teh Xin Yi (age 7+)

Cute Little Girl
[可愛小女孩]

Lines, and yes, only lines are used to create this art of scribbling.
With the image of the object in mind, properly we think about where should be the start and end point of the line, how should the lines cross or touch each others, where should the line be curve and straight….
Slowly, I see the face of the little girl. Then, I see the hair, body, hand..... And, the sky come naturally without plan!
What a surprise that art can give! Triss Ong

Colourful Illustration
[彩色绘画]

When sun is rising, the rooster crowing and the rabbit hopping.
To present this view, I decided to used illustration approach to create this artwork.
1st, I sketch out the objects. Then, I colour rooster and rabbit using oil pastel to make them stand up. Followed, I paint the sky with pink and yellow poster colour to make the morning look lovely. And toning effect is a must to bring out the structure of the objects.

Where to?
[選擇]

While composite this artwork, the decision of leaving white spaces is the key decision being made to allow visualization contrast so that the 2 “selections” on left and right can stand out clearly.
The girl are placed in the middle as the key to bring out the “Where to” message.
Besides, the direction the girl is facing, telling audience where the girl is towards to but at the same time, she is still struggling as her legs are still unmoved.
So, where do you think the girl will heading to?

When time pass by…
[當時間走過]

This drawing used various color schemes to represent sceneries of different time of a day.
Changes of the color tone were also used to represent the distance of the objects in the scenery.
The techniques of the color blending were used to illustrate the lighting and the opacity on the objects.

Fantasy Shoe House
[夢幻鞋屋]

A focal point is the element in an artwork that pulls in the viewer’s eye.
Composition, color and range of tones are used to emphasize the focal point as well as directing the path the viewer’s eye follows throughout the artwork.
In this artwork, hot colours are used to outstand the main object (shoe house )while cold and light colours are used for the background to create visualization contrast in order to make the shoe house more prominent.
Besides, colours combination is carefully considered too so ensure the happy feeling in this fantasy world is well presented The blue sky and the calm sea are the key to shown the sunny and nice weather of that day. The rainbow and the small birds are added to further bring out the feeling of happy.
Do you feel it now?

Cute Cat
[可愛的猫]

When come to real objects sketching, the key thing is to keep it as real as possible.
Measurement then come into the picture to help ensure the accuracy of the object’s size.
Then, colour observation is another key to allow the reproduce of the object in the artwork.
And, layers sequence is important too especially when the main object is the a hairy object.
Guess, should I color the main object first or the background first?
The answer is…..background. This will then allow me to create the layering effect perfectly.
Honestly, this is not a easy work. But, I am happy with what I have created. Phyllis Tea

Education in sea
[海洋裏的教育]

Create an artwork in long paper definitely has it’s increased difficulty.
1st, where should the Focal point be place in such a long paper so that audience can get the main idea of the story immediately. Then, how should the navigation lines be arrange in order to bring audience further explore the artwork story. Besides, overlapping, balancing, proportion, colors, effects….all need to be carefully thought along the line until the master piece is in place.
Huh, artwork creation is really like a exploration and invention.
